Immediately following a crown preparation, a primary impression is taken with Blue Velvet (30 Second or 90 Second). Next, Flexi-Velvet (30 Second or 90 Second) is injected into the impression of the prepped tooth.

The Flexi-Velvet material is hydraulically moved into the sulcus, displacing the gingival tissue and oral fluids. Since Flexi-Velvet is hydrophobic, it does not absorb moisture, and sets without distortion. These two occurrences are described as hydraulic and hydrophobic, or the H&H technique, which makes it possible to achieve accurate impressions without the use of retraction cord. This technique was developed to improve patient comfort while obtaining accurate results in an efficient manner.
