DentaPort OTR Module

DentaPort OTR Module The soft revolution in dentistry

I have had a DP-Root ZX apex Locator for many years. Can I supplement it with the OTR module or can I retrofit my old DentaPort Set and add OTR?

Yes! All DP-RCM apex Locators can be retrofitted with DP-TR3 (OTR). You will have the full range of functions without any limitations.

I would like to have a built-in (internal) file electrode for my „old“ DentaPort contra angle. Is that possible?

Older versions of DP contra angles can’t be retrofitted with an internal file electrode. However, you can use the new DP contra head with integrated file electrode with the motor that you already have.

I already have an apex Locator from a different manufacturer. Can I connect the OTR module to it?

No. You would have to order a DentaPort ZX Set OTR.
DentaPort ZX Set order no. 6912.

I don’t like having so many cables from all the different ancillary devices in my practice. Can I somehow integrate DentaPort in my treatment unit?

No.
But please remember that DentaPort combines an apex locator, endomotor and polymerization lamp in one device. Moreover, you don’t need an additional foot switch for it and the device is mains independent.

I have a DentaPort set and find the Auto Start/Stop and Auto Apical Reverse to be comfortable functions. Still, there are situations when I would prefer controlling the motor manually.

The DentaPort motor can be controlled manually by a shortcut button combination. A foot switch would be even more comfortable. The following types of foot switches are available. Please state the article number in your order.

Foot switch with 1.4 m cable (Order no. 6905-008)
Foot switch with 2.4 m cable (Order no. 6905-018)

The cable for my foot switch is too short. Is there an extension?

We offer cables in two lengths:

Foot switch with 1.4 m cable (Order no. 6905-008)
Foot switch with 2.4 m cable (Order no. 6905-018)

Which parts of the DentaPort can I sterilize in the autoclave?
  • Only the contra angle
  • File clamps
  • Mucosal electrodes
Which parts of the DentaPort can be put in the thermo disinfector?
  • File clamps
  • Mucosal electrodes
Will recurring (not free of charge) tests be necessary for DentaPort?

DentaPort is battery-operated and, therefore, mains independent. All functions are blocked when the charging cable is connected. This means that you can’t use it to treat a patient while the device is connected to the mains supply. Consequently, the tests (liable to charges) stipulated according to BGV A3 do not have to be carried out.

How long does the battery last and what do I do if the battery is defective?

When used frequently, an intact battery should have enough capacity for at least one up to several working days. It takes about 60 minutes to recharge completely. Should the battery’s capacity have dropped significantly, it can be replaced without any tools.

I use many different files. I would like to save the speed and maximum permissible torque values for each file respectively in the device.

DentaPort has 3 memory spaces. This is perfectly sufficient for several reasons: The torque values stated by the manufacturers of files usually are maximum values that apply for new files. Yet, the file already is „stressed“ after just a few rotations in the root canal and, consequently, worn up to a certain degree. Accordingly, the maximum applicable torque value is that much lower. This questions the relevance of stipulating strict values.
If you have more memory spaces, you will have to make more adjustments on the device during the treatment (stress, hygiene). OTR stays far below any maximum values and, in addition, it only requires a maximum of 3 files. The torque values primarily depend on the method and not so much on the files.

How many memory spaces does DentaPort have?

DentaPort has 3 memory spaces.

I could easily detect wear on the external file electrode. Now the file electrode is not visible anymore. How can I see whether the electrode is worn?

The built-in electrode also is subject to wear and should be replaced from time to time. In order to ensure that the electrode is always in perfect working order, it should be replaced after about 100 operating hours (rotation time). A countdown timer is integrated in DentaPort and emits an acoustic signal when it’s time to replace the electrode

Which files can I use?

The EndoWave OTR sequence has proven to be very well suited. As a rule, however, DentaPort is compatible with all files having the following properties:

  • Made of nickel-titanium
  • Right-hand cutting
  • RA shaft
  • Speed between 100-800 rpm

This covers almost all conventional files for rotary preparation. However, files for reciprocating preparation cannot be used, because they are left-hand cutting and, therefore, have to be driven counter-clockwise.

Where can I buy DentaPort?

Please contact a specialized dental retailer.

The new DentaPort OTR has a function for calibrating the lead circuit for the torque value. Why wasn’t this provided in the old model?

The torque values that can be set are many times lower for OTR than those needed for the conventional Auto Torque Reverse. Consequently, any friction losses of the gear mechanism in the contra angle or motor hardly matter in connection with Auto Torque Reverse, but are significant with OTR.

Torque values for the different methods

Reciproc: approx. 400 gcm
Auto Torque Reverse: approx. 100 gcm
OTR: approx. 20-40 gcm
